π Need a car for this road trip?
If you donβt have your own car, Iβd really recommend renting one β it gives you the flexibility to stop at each waterfall and explore at your own pace.
I usually use DiscoverCars to compare prices and find the best deals across different rental companies.
π Itβs really easy to use:
- Compare multiple providers in one place
- Cheaper than booking direct
- Free cancellation on most options
- Their 3rd party insurance is a lot cheaper
- They have a great customer service for claims (though I hope you won’t have to use it!
Additional Information & Highlights
π Staithes

π
ΏοΈ Parking:
There is a large car park by the fishmonger and cafΓ© at the top of the village. You can park your vehicle there and walk down to the village. Please note that this is a pay and display.
π‘ My Top Tip: Make sure to cross the bridge and go up Cowbar Bank as the views from there are very nice (that’s where I took the picture).
π Runswick Bay

π Whitby

πΊοΈ Things To Do:
– Visiting Whitby Abbey (tickets here)
– Walking up the 199 steps and take in the views
– Going to Captain Cook Museum and learn more about the famous explorer
– Visiting the Whitby Distillery
– Go for a drink or listen to live music in one of the bars by the harbour
π‘ My Top Tip: Walk up the 199 steps just before sunset as the views are fantastic and if the weather is nice the sunset is absolutely beautiful.
π Larpool Viaduct

π
ΏοΈ Parking:
Park near the Cinder Track. It’s free but there aren’t many spots.
π‘ My Top Tip: Walk along the Cinder Track to the Viaduct. From there you can either head back to Whitby (that should take around 45 minutes altogether) or walk all the way to Robin Hood’s Bay but this takes 2 hours (one way).
π Robin Hood’s Bay

π
ΏοΈ Parking:
There are two car parks in Robin Hood’s Bay, Bank Top and the station car park. They are both pay and display and you can walk from there to the village.
π‘ My Top Tip: Make sure to wear good shoes as the way down is quite steep and there are a lot of cobblestones in the village. You do not need hiking shoes but trainers are preferable.
π Scarborough

π
ΏοΈ Parking:
I recommend parking by the North Bay (pay and display) so you can see the beach huts and walk to the castle and the town.
πΊοΈ Things To Do:
– Going to the beach and the beach huts
– Doing a ghost tour
– Going up to Scarborough Castle
– Getting an ice cream by the harbour and going to Luna Park
– Doing a walking tour
